Spring Equinox, also known amongst many varieties of modern-day witches as Ostara, marks the time when the sun passes over the celestial equator in the Northern Hemisphere. Many modern pagan traditions celebrate the season’s change from dark winter to brightening spring.

Symbols of fertility and new life play a prominent role in many Vernal Equinox celebrations. While the essential element of this equinox is rebirth, new beginnings, and fertility, for childfree people, the thought of topics such as ‘birth’ and ‘fertility’ can feel quite alienating.

By shifting our definition of those two concepts to suitably fit our needs we can make this time of year both personal and meaningful to ourselves. Basing our observation of this time of year around areas of our life where new beginnings and creativity are present does just as well as focusing on more literal interpretations.

Below is a tarot spread centered around seasonal topics of balance, growth, regeneration, fertility, decay, and birth.

  1. Balance

Question: “What needs balance in my life?”

This card tells you what aspect of your life you need to keep in check.

  1. Growth

This placement indicates where you need to spend your time and energy. It tells you what spring will bring you, and what skills/talents, you should focus your attentions on.

  1. Regeneration
