On May 15th, 9:14PT/May 16th at 12:14 am ET/ 6:14 am CET the first Scorpio lunar eclipse occurs. Over the course of the year there will be 3 eclipses total in Scorpio. This eclipse is the first of its kind since 2002. As this eclipse takes place on the South Node, we will see ourselves through a cleansing process. This will be tough sorting through the emotional muck. But sometimes trudging through the muck is necessary. One thing is clear: this first of 3 eclipses in Scorpio brings the heat.
Spicy Scorpio is the sign of transformation, birth and death. Scorpio is adept at engaging with the shadow self. Scorpio finds meaning in pain, and doesn’t shy away from the ugly truth endemic to the heart of society. This particular retrograde will shine a light on the truth. It will find us examining situations that are no longer tenable. The scourge of gun violence in the United States continues to illustrate a situation that is out of control, and beyond sustainable to the quality of human life. The truth continues to unfold.
Beyond the macrocosm, the microcosm is focused on finding the truth at the heart of personal matters. It could be seeing the truth projected on a job situation, a group dynamic, partnership or intimate situation. Things might sting a bit, and could come with the bittersweet sense of grief. Gemini season starts on Friday, May 20th . Gemini brings the change and aids in finding clarity with the help of Mercury in retrograde itself (see, it doesn’t just do bad things!) as it meets the Sun in what is referred to as ‘cazimi’. Cazimi grants clarity that we are not always able to access while in retrograde.
The Death card of the Tarot shows up for us as we navigate shedding our proverbial skins. While Scorpio is most known for its Scorpion image, it is also aligned with the serpent, eagle and phoenix. Death guides us like snakes shedding our skins to transform anew like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Through staying mindful in this process, you could very well come to find out that the bitter truth you have to face is going to help you out enormously in the long run. If a situation has soured, it might be time to consider letting it go.
You can manifest this Scorpion energy by going through a spring cleaning: sorting out what no longer serves you, and prioritizing what you would like to achieve over the course of the year ahead. The final days of Mercury in retrograde aids in our renewal. Now is an excellent time for cleansing and manifestation rituals.
In this eclipse, Saturn helps us zero in on something and see it for what it is. It could be anything from a project that might need to be abandoned, as it’s no longer a passion project and more of a chore to interpersonal relationships that are no longer healthy. This gift from Saturn helps with projects, ventures and relationship issues by setting firm boundaries and keeping to them.
Now is the time to think about what you would like to see come to fruition over the year. Investigate ways you can be more go-with-the-flow in your processes. What pots can be boiled at the same time via adaptive techniques? While sorting through this challenging time, whether it be the horror show of global current events to our very own individual gales, remember to be tender with yourself and others. It’s what we could all use right now.
Tarot spread
1 What recent pain have I learned from?
2 What was the lesson?
3 What pain have I been ignoring?
4 What am I grieving?
5 What does the darkness teach me?
6 How can I use grief and pain to start anew?
